Cable's Fiber Outlook Report 2019

Light Reading report sponsored by Incognito Software

Light Reading and Heavy Reading have teamed up with SCTE/ISBE, Incognito Software, and four other major industry vendors, to survey cable operators about their fiber buildout plans and strategies. This report presents the results of that second annual survey, examines where cable is seeking to go with fiber as the industry pursues its 10G quest, and delves into what it all means.

Incognito's section of the report looks at the challenges of operating and provisioning new fiber services and the methods that operators are using or exploring to overcome those challenges. It also outlines what cablecos will require as they continue to adapt to the new fiber era.

Some of the key findings include:

  • Service activation, configuration, and decreasing fallout is the leading area where cablecos are looking to improve operational efficiency over the next 12 to 18 months.
  • Over one-third of cableco have already converged residential and business service provisioning and operations into a single operations support system (OSS) stack.
  • Over half of respondents say their company is working on a DAA strategy but has not completed it yet, while another one-third have a DAA strategy in place but are still evaluating either the digital endpoints or the digital network.
